Broadband speed

Metrics which matter when talking about broadband speed

  1. Latency (i.e., “ping time”)
  2. Upload throughput
  3. Download throughput

(All, being realistic, need hourly averages to be useful because with many ISPs they vary wildly at different times of the day).

Metrics which don’t really matter when talking about broadband speed and at best are irrelevant (if you have the above) and at worst are actively misleading

  1. Wire speed
  2. Modem sync rate
