– Steve Jobs on working with designer Paul Rand on the NeXT logo (via yaili) (via kurafire)
I think pretty much everybody who works in the creative industries wishes it always worked this way, especially with those clients who, having been presented with what you think will work best, come back and...

Ofcom’s Freeview HD DRM Consultation
I meant to write about this yesterday, but Ofcom has published the responses it has received from its Freeview HD DRM consultation. I’m quite glad to see that there are a few more responses to it this time around as compared to the original “stakeholder inquiry”.
For the vast majority of the responses, publishing as PDF doesn’t work too well — they’re short answers to the online questionnaire,...

Weird NSDocument problem
I’m running into an odd problem with Foreman.
If I open a non-native document type (for example, a folder), and attempt to save as a project, I get the following message on the console:
2010-04-19 19:16:55.705 Foreman[29439:a0f] Trying to save a document without any appropriate writable type defined.
Moreover, if I don’t explicitly call -setFileType: with my native document type’s UTI, the...

iPhone OS 4
Obviously, I couldn’t possibly comment on the accuracy of any of the following.
OS 4 has IPv6 support, which means iPhone OS devices would no longer be the black sheep of Apple’s family in this regard — everything else network-aware which Apple produces supports v6.
OS 4 runs iChatAgent in the background. No evidence of there being an actual iChat (yet?) though.
Multitasking is, as you’d...

Stephen Timms’ response to the open letter
Yesterday, Stephen Timms sent me an e-mail in reply to the open letter that I wrote — and hundreds of you put your names to — last week.
I’ve reproduced it below.
Dear Mo
Thank you for forwarding this to me. I did spot it on Twitter, but it helps
to have an e-mail address to respond to.
You describe the reaction of those watching the debate as “almost universal

From Peter Luff
Well, apart from condemning the process, we simply don’t agree. I can only stand by my speech.
I’m sorry - you are being courteous and reasonable which is more than many have been on this contentious issue, but I have given it thought over many months and I have now made my position clear.
Thank you for your concern - I just wish we could find more common ground.

An Open Letter to Siôn Simon, Pete Wishart, David...
Dear Sirs,
This evening, as the Second Reading of the Digital Economy Bill was heard in the House of Commons, you were watched by a great many people. Many of these people had never watched Parliament in session before. Almost universal was the horror and anger at the affront to the democratic process which was unfolding before our eyes.
This letter is addressed to you because you stated your...

Graze customer service: doubleplus good
Hello Mo,
We sent you an email this morning letting you know that we couldn’t take payment for your box due on Saturday.
After we sent you this email, we had a mix up in the graze kitchen which meant this box was still prepared and sent.
We’ve made sure this box was free, we hope you enjoy it!
Have a happy Easter.
Charlie
Wow.
(By the way, if you live in the UK and...

1FPS: So, Macworld offered me a job →
Last year I picked up a job with Agile Web Solutions, the 1Password and AllBookmarks shop, and I’ve been freelancing for Macworld for much of that time on the side. Working at Agile has been a great gig at a super company run by rad people, but Macworld decided that it wanted me all to…
Great news — congratulations!

Comment of the week
Content protection means it only gets distributed to those who have paid for it. It is feasible.
— Nick Reynolds
Now, Nick’s a nice chap, and I’m doing my best to explain things to him, but it’s hard work when the misconceptions run this deep.
